The Best of CEDIA 2016
The CEDIA Expo is where all the best installers, custom home integrators and media go to learn and explore the newest in custom home theater and home automation. Manufacturers often keep many of their products under wraps until CEDIA, and use it as their launch pad to showcase their latest innovative, ground breaking products. Here, we bring you up close with the best that CEDIA had to offer this year
SIM2xTV
SIM2 is a worldwide manufacturer of home theater products best known for small, often high-end projectors announced their new patented SIM2xTV. This new model combines the large screen experience with the most discreet display device giving users a fully immersive experience. The SIM2xTV is an all-digital device that uses Laser hybrid illumination and DLP picture technology creating images that are able to reproduce a diversity of colors, exceptional clarity and extended dynamics.
The Sim2xTV can be placed on furniture or ceiling-mounted and has the ultimate flexibility in installation. The system runs quietly, and can project an image on a light-coloured wall or video screen. The projector is encased in a sleek black crystal glass cabinet, which adds a touch of sophistication to any interior.
Amazon Alexa
Amazon Alexa, the voice-recognition platform that powers Echo, is one of the most successful voice recognition technologies on the market. It was announced that manufacturers of home control systems including, Lutron, Crestron, and Sonos (to name a few) have now integrated Amazon’s popular voice control software into their products. A large number of other companies were also proudly announcing Alexa compatibility.
Homeowners who use these systems can now streamline control of their home (lights, shades, thermostats, electronic doorbells) with just a few words, like “Alexa, Good Morning”, which will trigger a string of signals so that all your smart home devices go to their respective morning settings.
Sonos Third Party Integration
Sonos is now integrating with third-party home automation systems. Crestron, iPort, Lutron and Savant are some of Sonos’ first sanctioned partners. The company has also partnered with Amazon and its Alexa voice control system. Sonos users will gain this new capability in a software update that will work on new and previous versions of Sonos and Alexa-enabled devices, such as the Amazon Echo & The newly released Echo Dot among others.
These joint collaborations seamlessly integrate Sonos’ sound platform into the connected home. All of these integrations make it possible to control Sonos from a touchscreen panel, light switch, remote control or a simple push of a button
Sony
Z Series
Sony introduced its newest flagship line of 4K LCD TVs, the Z Series. It’s the next generation in television display technology with the ability to reproduce the deeper blacks, brighter lights, and more accurate colors to express what the content creators truly intended. It incorporates the company’s latest HDR (high-dynamic range) and 4K image processor for improved contrast and color accuracy. The Z Series runs on Google’s Android TV platform with a custom interface by Sony.
The new Z series adopted the Backlight Master Drive technology, which Sony introduced as a prototype at CES 2016. The Backlight Master Drive is precision backlight boosting technology, which expands brightness and contrast for the full combined potential of 4K HDR.
Sony had just issued its best TV to date.
